2025-2026 Concert Series Co-presented by Midwest Center for Holocaust Education New York pianist, Roger Peltzman’s one-person show, "Dedication," recounts his family’s tragic history fleeing the Nazis in war-torn Europe using drama, humor, powerful images, and musical performances of everything from blues to Chopin. Drawn into the story of people he never knew, Peltzman develops a “relationship” with his uncle, Norbert Stern, a brilliant pianist who was murdered in Auschwitz at age 21. Learning that Holocaust trauma can be inherited, Peltzman recounts his coming to terms with second generation survivor trauma and the role of music in helping to manage wounds that will never fully heal. A singular tale from the Holocaust that is at once extraordinary and relatable.

Galvanized by seismic changes in the ever-evolving social and political landscape, Terri Lyne Carrington and Social Science confront a wide spectrum of social justice issues. The band’s stunning double disc debut, Waiting Game, immediately takes its place in the stirring lineage of politically conscious and activist music, expressing an unflinching, inclusive and compassionate view of humanity’s breaks and bonds through an expansive program melding jazz, R&B, indie rock, contemporary improvisation, and hip-hop. Released by Motéma Music, Waiting Game is as thought-provoking and artistically evocative as it is musically exhilarating. Produced by Carrington and built around her friendship and collaboration with co-producers, pianist Aaron Parks and guitarist Matthew Stevens, and additional band members Morgan Guerin (bass & sax), Debo Ray (vocals) and Kassa Overall (MC/DJ), the album features a diverse ensemble that spans multiple generations, racial, ethnic, sexual and gender identities. The band states: “Along with a message of wakefulness, inclusiveness, and noncompliance, we’ve summoned our musical influences to offer an eclectic alternative to the mainstream. Returning for their sixth appearance at MTC, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain has become not only a national institution, but also a worldwide phenomenon. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB), founded by George Hinchliffe and Kitty Lux, has enjoyed touring in the United States many times. The Australian Chamber Orchestra lives and breathes music, making waves around the world for its explosive performances that redefine orchestral music. A new work from John Luther Adams, commissioned by the ACO as part of a residency in Australia, sees the orchestra literally transforming and changing shape on stage as the music asks you to see beyond the visible horizon to the true, limitless expanse before us. Richard Tognetti then evokes that sense of the sublime in Vaughan William’s “The Lark Ascending,” beloved by audiences everywhere. The concert culminates in an arrangement for strings of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s “String Quartet in E-flat major,” with the thrilling energy and virtuosity of the ACO on full display.
