Kansas City Symphony’s Mobile Music Box at Gillham Park

First launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kansas City Symphony’s Mobile Music Box provides free outdoor chamber music concerts to audiences across the metro. To date, Symphony musicians have performed in 258 unique locations, spread over 93 zip codes, reaching tens of thousands of people. Join the Mobile Music Box at Gillham Park for its 2026 season closing show with this special brass quintet performance. Lawn chairs, picnics and blankets are encouraged. Please bring your children and pets!

Kansas City Ballet Summer Intensive

The Kansas City Ballet Summer Intensive offers a curriculum focused on classical ballet with exposure to a variety of dance disciplines. Artistic staff and school faculty of Kansas City Ballet combine to create one of the best summer intensives offered in the country. Our world-class guest instructors bring additional expertise that is unmatched and will help prepare students for the demands of a professional career. We educate not just the dancer, but the whole person. Classes take place at the award-winning Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity in the Crossroad Arts District of Kansas City, Missouri.

But when Jimmy draws a blank in art class during the last week of school, it turns out Pete is the perfect pal to help him out. Together, they set out on a mission to help Jimmy conquer second grade art, and along the way, they both learn a little something new about inspiration. He stars on Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning reboot series Queer Eye, where he shines as the hair guru and self-care advocate; and he hosts the popular podcast, Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness. Jonathan also starred on the Emmy-nominated web series Gay of Thrones, a witty social commentary series recapping HBO’s Game of Thrones. Launched in 2013, the series ran for eight seasons and garnered three Emmy nominations for ‘Outstanding Short Form Variety Series.’ Fresh off two successful worldwide comedy tours, Jonathan Van Ness: Road to Beijing and Imaginary Living Room Olympian, Jonathan is bringing their new show, Hot & Healed, to cities around the US, Canada and abroad.

George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue is the perfect blend of jazz and classical brilliance; its dynamic energy will raise your spirits and set your toes tapping. Czech composer Antonín Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony is one of the most popular symphonies of all time. He wrote it while living in America as a tribute to the power and majesty of American music and landscapes. Florence Price was a trailblazing composer who infused her exuberant piano concerto with African American dance melodies and rhythms, while Joan Tower’s suite bursts with bold orchestral colors.

Ensemble Ibérica ‘Kicking Off – A Musical Tour of Algeria, Argentina, England, and the Netherlands’

Known for their dynamic collaborations and genre-blending performances, Ensemble Ibérica brings together world-class artists to reimagine classical, folkloric, and contemporary repertoire, creating immersive experiences that connect audiences across cultures. Led by guitarist and artistic director Beau Bledsoe, the group features Turkish cellist and vocalist Ezgi Karakus and percussionist John Currey, whose combined artistry reflects a shared commitment to expanding the reach of underrepresented music through performance, education, and international collaboration. This special program explores a rich tapestry of global musical traditions, featuring the modern Argentine tangos of Astor Piazzolla alongside beloved classic tangos. They will also present Renaissance works by John Dowland, whose music reflects the expressive depth of early European art music. Expanding beyond these traditions, the program also includes folkloric music from Algeria and the Netherlands, highlighting the diverse cultural voices and musical languages that connect communities across continents.

Punch Brothers

Known for pushing the boundaries of acoustic music, the band has garnered critical acclaim, including a Grammy for Best Folk Album for All Ashore (2018). The Washington Post applauded them for taking “bluegrass to its next evolutionary stage, drawing equal inspiration from the brain and the heart.” Over the years, they’ve become pioneers in modern string music, with albums like Antifogmatic (2010), Who’s Feeling Young Now (2012) and The Phosphorescent Blues (2015) showcasing their genre-defying sound. Rolling Stone praised their work as “wild virtuosity used for more than just virtuosity,” cementing their reputation as trailblazers in contemporary acoustic music. Most Recently, Punch Brothers have been focused on their new musical variety show, “The Energy Curfew Music Hour,” with seasons one and two available on Audible and all podcasting platforms. This show is 18+ Step back into the electrifying spirit of Prohibition-era Kansas City, where jazz poured from hidden clubs and the city’s rhythm never slept. This dazzling cirque and dance spectacle celebrates the legendary Kansas City jazz scene and the artists who shaped it, blending the pulse of live jazz with breathtaking circus artistry. Tap dancers trade rhythms with live musicians, aerialists soar above smoky speakeasy stages, and acrobats flip and fly to the infectious swing of a live jazz band. Inspired by the golden age of the KC jazz clubs, swing halls, and underground speakeasies, the show transforms the historic Folly Theater into a vibrant celebration of music, movement, and gravity-defying spectacle.
