The Bodyguard Sings Its Way Into KC Hearts August 8-13

The Bodyguard

The Olivier Award-nominated musical THE BODYGUARD makes its Kansas City premiere at Starlight Theatre this summer. As part of its National Tour of 40-plus U.S. cities, the romantic thriller takes the Starlight stage Aug. 8-13.

Based on the 1992 Warner Bros. film of the same name, THE BODYGUARD stars Grammy Award nominee and multi-platinum R&B/pop recording artist Deborah Cox as superstar Rachel Marron. Her co-star is TV and film actor Judson Mills as Frank Farmer, the Secret Service agent-turned-bodyguard hired to protect Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

THE BODYGUARD spotlights a multitude of pop hits, including “Run to You,” “I Have Nothing,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and one of the best-selling singles of all time, “I Will Always Love You.”

The musical opened in London’s West End in 2012 and has since performed in several countries. It was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, and won Best New Musical at the Whatsonstage Awards. The U.S. tour began in Minneapolis in January 2017.

THE BODYGUARD is directed by Thea Sherrock (Me Before You), written by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman) and features choreography by Olivier Award winner Karen Bruce (Pacific Overtures).

THE BODYGUARD opens at Starlight on Tuesday, August 8 and runs for six performances through Sunday, August 13. All shows start at 8 p.m.

Tickets for THE BODYGUARD start at $14 and are available at www.kcstarlight.com or by calling 816-363-7827.
