On November 17th, Oleta Adams, world-renowned blues and gospel vocalist is coming to the Folly Theater for their 4th annual Folly Frolic! Oleta Adams, a KCK local, has performed around the globe and is most known for her debut Platinum album Circle of One and her hit single “Get Here”. Oleta’s songs draw deeply from her roots in gospel while crossing effortlessly into the realms of soul, R&B, urban, and pop music. Oleta, who was born in Seattle then traveled to Yakima, Washington at age six, spent her early music years in Kansas City as a lounge singer with her own billboard and a regular gig at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. It was here that the British band Tears for Fears found her and asked her to appear on their album “The Seeds of Love” and the following European tour.
Now Oleta still tours to Europe often performing with classical orchestras providing piano and vocals. On Saturday, November 17th, Oleta will perform in Kansas City at the Folly Theater for their annual benefit concert, Folly Frolic. This concert is also a “grand revealing” of the Folly Theater’s recently completed $2.5 million renovations they had begun in July with Helix Architecture + Design & McCownGordon Construction.
