With the curtain down on Starlight’s summer season, the historic theatre in Swope Park has transformed its stage house for the much-anticipated exhibit, Van Gogh Alive. Presented by Starlight and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Van Gogh Alive is a large-scale, interactive multi-sensory arts and entertainment experience that combines mesmerizing light, color, sound and fragrance to transport patrons to the world of the 19th century painter.
Open October 23, 2021 – January 14, 2022, patrons wander through the exhibit in the same 12,000 square foot stage house they see live Broadway productions and concerts performed on each summer. In the winter months, the stage house is enclosed and climate controlled. Guests enter Starlight through Gate 8 and can stop in the Van Gogh Café for pastries and drinks before or after entering the exhibit.
The visit is self-paced, but guests typically spend about an hour experiencing the works Van Gogh created from 1880 to 1890. Following the main exhibit, there are additional areas where guests can experience a replica of Van Gogh’s famous bedroom or take selfies in the iconic Sunflower Room. And Van Gogh Alive has been designed to appeal to all ages—so bring the whole family to enjoy!
