Celebrate the Holidays with the Midwest Trust Center

Join the Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College for a weekend of holiday celebrations.  With shows for the young and the young at heart, there is something for everyone!

Bridget Kibbey with HarpOn Friday, December 3, Bridget Kibbey with the Dover Quartet will feature some of the best-beloved works of J.S. Bach, including Toccata and Fugue in D minor, which Kibbey adapted for harp.  The accomplished harpist has been called the “Yo-Yo Ma of the harp,” by Vogue’s Senior Editor Corey Seymour, while the quartet has been hailed as “the next Guarneri Quartet” (Chicago Tribune) and “the young American string quartet of the moment” (New Yorker).

Bring the whole family December 4 or 5 to see Mesner Puppet Theater in “The Snowy Day.” Featuring stories from the Caldecott Award-winning author Ezra Jack Keats and adapted by Jerome Hairston.  Follow Peter and his friends as they start snowball fights, make snow angels and play in the snow in this uplifting play.  Mesner Puppet Theater brings Keats’ stories to life in this charming collection featuring “Whistle for Willie,” “A Letter to Amy,” “Goggles!”  and “The Snowy Day.”

Stick around December 4 as Mariachi Los Camperos performs “Fiesta Navidad,” a holiday fiesta perfect for all ages in Yardley Hall.  Always an explosion of music and color, Mariachi Los Camperos is known for moving mariachi music out of the cantinas and into the concert halls of America.

End the weekend on a high note December 5 with Ana Gasteyer. She is bringing her “Sugar & Booze Holiday Tour” to Overland Park.  The “Saturday Night Live” actor and trained singer will perform songs from her holiday album.  Harking back to the big-band era — but with Gasteyer’s modern and comedic touch — “Sugar & Booze” is the follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut album, “I’m Hip.”
