From playwright Marco Ramirez (Orange is the New Black, Daredevil) comes a story inspired by real-world boxer Jack Johnson who, as a Black man at the height of the Jim Crow era, became the heavyweight champion of the world. A knockout award-winning new play and winner of two Obie Awards, an Outer Critics Circle Award, a Drama Desk Award, and multiple others, this tour-de-force sold out houses in London, New York, and LA. The New York Times raved: “original and graceful. The Royale packs a punch!”
The Royale is an electrifying adrenaline rush that shows us the human cost of making history. Get tickets today while you still can!

After finishing its public run at Copaken Stage, The Royale will make history as KCRep embarks on their first-ever community tour.
KCRep for All, the theatre’s new community tour series, brings the magic of live theatre directly to neighborhoods throughout Kansas City. You’ll see the same stories from KCRep’s stages come to life in community centers, public libraries, and senior centers throughout our region. KCRep for All breaks down economic and geographic barriers and makes our theatre walls more permeable as we travel across Kansas City to meet people where they are. This program is inspired by The Old Globe’s Globe for All program in San Diego. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Following its public run at Copaken Stage, the community tour of The Royale will take place from March 31 – April 10th, 2022. Performing the same script as seen on our mainstages, the show is re-staged and re-imagined to be performed for you in your neighborhood. Find out if we are coming to your neighborhood:
