After a brief hiatus from the road, Broadway’s hit musical Chicago relaunches its tour right here in Kansas City—September 14-16 at Starlight Theatre. Having just celebrated its 21st year on Broadway, this Tony, Grammy and Olivier award-winning musical has no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Based on a play of the same name, Chicago is set amidst the razzle-dazzle of the 1920s, and tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.
Chicago has everything that makes Broadway great—fame, fortune and all that jazz—and features all of those classic songs that audiences know and love like “Roxie,” “When You’re Good to Mama” and “Cell Block Tango.” Whether you’re looking for your first Broadway musical or whether you’ve seen it before and want to recapture the magic, Chicago always delivers.
Audiences from Mexico City to Moscow, São Paulo to South Africa and everywhere in between have raved about this iconic show and now it is Kansas City’s turn.
Chicago plays Starlight Theatre one weekend only—September 14-16. All shows start at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $14 and are available at kcstarlight.com, by calling 816.363.7827 or visiting the ticket office at 4600 Starlight Road, Kansas City, Mo., 64132.
