Alisa Weilerstein, cello and Inon Barnatan, piano in duo recital
Presented by Harriman-Jewell Series at The Folly Theater Kansas City, MO
Alisa Weilerstein is one of the foremost cellists of our time. Known for her consummate artistry, emotional investment, and rare interpretive depth, she was recognized with a MacArthur “genius grant” Fellowship in 2011 for her exceptional creativity, originality and dedication. Today, her career is truly global in scope. While maintaining a deep engagement with the standards of the repertoire, she is also dedicated to expanding cello literature and bringing new works to life through a wealth of solo and concerto commissions. As featured in a Gramophone cover story, in 2022 she released the complete Beethoven Sonatas for Cello and Piano with frequent collaborator Inon Barnatan. “Weilerstein is a throwback to an earlier age of classical performers: not content merely to serve as a vessel for the composer’s wishes, she inhabits a piece fully and turns it to her own ends,” marvels the New York Times. “Weilerstein’s cello is her id. She doesn’t give the impression that making music involves will at all. She and the cello seem simply to be one and the same,” agrees the Los Angeles Times. As the UK’s Telegraph puts it, “Weilerstein is truly a phenomenon.” “One of the most admired pianists of his generation” (New York Times), Inon Barnatan has received universal acclaim for his “uncommon sensitivity” (The New Yorker), “impeccable musicality and phrasing” (Le Figaro), and his stature as “a true poet of the keyboard: refined, searching, unfailingly communicative” (The Evening Standard). A multifaceted musician, Barnatan is equally celebrated as soloist, curator and collaborator. Barnatan appears regularly…

Calvin Arsenia
Presented by Folly Theater at The Folly Theater Kansas City, MO
Ten years ago, Calvin Arsenia premiered Catastrophe at recordBar on Grand Boulevard, introducing Kansas City to a theatrical concert vocabulary that would become central to his work: harp, voice, movement, spectacle, storytelling, and a cast of collaborators large enough to make a concert feel more like a small civilization. Since then, Arsenia has become one of Kansas City’s most singular musical figures, voted Kansas City’s Best Musician by The Pitch for eight consecutive years, 2018–2025, while receiving recognition and support from organizations including the Charlotte Street Foundation, ArtsKC, and the Mid-America Arts Alliance. His work has moved between concert halls, fashion runways, theaters, recordings, and film, including the feature-length Summer in Hindsight, for which he contributed original music and performance. On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Arsenia returns to the historic Folly Theater with a seasoned gathering of beloved Kansas City musicians for an evening that looks across a decade of songwriting. Familiar songs will sit alongside new arrangements, offering a portrait of an artist whose work has continued to evolve without losing its appetite for beauty, theater, intimacy, and transcendence. A curated VIP experience will provide an additional, more intimate entry into the evening. Ten years after Catastrophe, the Darling Harpist comes home to the stage that Kansas City built for its most extravagant little secrets.
