Herbie Hancock

Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960s. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings, followed by his work in the 70s — with record-breaking albums such as “Headhunters” — that combined electric jazz with funk and rock in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music. “Rockit” and “Future Shock” marked Hancock's foray into electronic dance sounds; during the same period he also continued to work in an acoustic setting with V.S.O.P.Hancock received an Academy Award for his Round Midnight film score and 14 Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year for “River: The Joni Letters,” and two 2011 Grammy Awards for the globally collaborative CD, “The Imagine Project.”Hancock serves as Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and as Institute Chairman of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz. In 2011 Hancock was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, and in December of 2013, received a Kennedy Center Honor. His memoir, Herbie Hancock: Possibilities, was published by Viking in 2014, and in February 2016 he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Katy Guillen & The Drive’s sophomore album Make That Sound has been making big waves in the indie music scene since its release last fall. Glide Magazine describes it as “a relentless rock vibe, combining Wet Leg’s modern edge and Courtney Barnett’s knack for guitar-based hooks,” and Rainbow Rodeo declared, “It’s raw, it's tight, and it's utterly compelling.” The last half of 2025 saw the band touring relentlessly on the new record with dates across the Midwest and Northeast, as well as a tour down the West Coast supporting British guitar legend Robin Trower. This year the band will take the new album to more cities across the country, including a tour through Alaska.

Formed in 2012, Found a Job - A Tribute to Talking Heads is an 8-piece band that primarily performs music from albums released during Talking Heads' Expanded Heads era ("Remain in Light," "Speaking in Tongues," and "Stop Making Sense"). The ensemble also covers songs outside of that era including radio hits such as "Road to Nowhere, " "And She Was," "Take me to The River," "Once in a Lifetime," and "Burning Down the House." Currently the band plays 2+ hours of music, complete with choreography a la the classic concert movie "Stop Making Sense."

The Kansas City Symphony Presents: Prometheus, The Poem of Fire

This extraordinary event is an exploration of outer worlds, inner space and the power of artistic creation. Curated by Music Director Matthias Pintscher and acclaimed production designer Luke Kritzeck, evocative music from three composers transports you on a multisensory journey. Luciano Berio’s Sequenza V pushes a solo trombone to its limits. Edgard Varèse’s Déserts was the first piece to incorporate recorded tape as part of the score and uses sounds to explore both physical deserts and those of the human spirit. Filmmaker Bill Viola’s 1994 avant-garde film of the same name, designed to express visually what Varèse expresses musically, will accompany the piece. Alexander Scriabin’s Prometheus: The Poem of Fire was composed for orchestra, with indications of light and color written into the score; Kritzeck’s innovative production design brings Scriabin’s vision to life using cutting-edge technology. It all comes together in a concert that shapes what you hear, what you see and what you feel. Robert Plant with Saving Grace and Suzi Dian With Special Guest Rosie Flores

The group members were drawn together by a shared love of roots music both vintage and modern — of blues, folk, gospel, country and those tantalizing sounds that lay in between. Like Plant, they’re keen to explore how these genres are evolving as well as to discover where these repertoires originated — and how collectively they could reinvigorate the music they loved. “It’s been a revelation, the sweetness of this thing,” said Plant. “These are really sweet people. They’re playing all the stuff they could never get out before. They’ve become unique stylists and have created a new place for the old dog.” Rosie Flores has pioneered a path in male-dominated rock and country scenes into powerful songs she wrote, sang and performed as a respected lead guitarist. A daughter of San Antonio, this multi-award winning artist has adroitly absorbed and helped preserve the musical legacies of influential Texas musicians as varied as country music’s King of Western Swing Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, blues guitar master T-Bone Walker, and Tex Mex innovator Doug Sahm. She is spotlighted in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s exhibition “Western Edge: The Roots & Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock” in Nashville.
