The Ritz by Terrence McNally
Presented by Unicorn Theatre at Unicorn Theatre Kansas City, MO
When Gaetano Proclo—a hapless, middle-aged, very married, very straight man—goes on the run from his mafioso brother-in-law, he hides in the last place anyone would think to look: The Ritz, a bustling gay bathhouse. Fast, fizzy, and unapologetically outrageous, The Ritz is a laugh-out-loud romp where the only thing dropping faster than the towels… is Gaetano’s cover.

The Kansas City Symphony Presents: Prometheus, The Poem of Fire
Presented by Kansas City Symphony at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Kansas City, MO
This extraordinary event is an exploration of outer worlds, inner space and the power of artistic creation. Curated by Music Director Matthias Pintscher and acclaimed production designer Luke Kritzeck, evocative music from three composers transports you on a multisensory journey. Luciano Berio’s Sequenza V pushes a solo trombone to its limits. Edgard Varèse’s Déserts was the first piece to incorporate recorded tape as part of the score and uses sounds to explore both physical deserts and those of the human spirit. Filmmaker Bill Viola’s 1994 avant-garde film of the same name, designed to express visually what Varèse expresses musically, will accompany the piece. Alexander Scriabin’s Prometheus: The Poem of Fire was composed for orchestra, with indications of light and color written into the score; Kritzeck’s innovative production design brings Scriabin’s vision to life using cutting-edge technology. It all comes together in a concert that shapes what you hear, what you see and what you feel. Featuring: Matthias Pintscher, music director and conductor George Li, piano Luke Kritzeck, production designer Program: LUCIANO BERIO, Sequenza V for solo trombone EDGARD VARÈSE, Déserts ALEXANDER SCRIABIN, Prometheus: The Poem of Fire

Eureka Day
Presented by Kansas City Actors Theatre at City Stage Theatre at Union Station Kansas City, MO
Delightfully prescient and pointedly funny, Jonathan Spector’s 2025 Tony Award-winning Eureka Day comes to the City Stage in September! In this “…sharp satire of well-meaning but misguided liberalism” (New York Theatre Guide) a mumps outbreak has put the Board of Directors of the Eureka Day School on their backfoot, forced to reexamine their vaccination policy. Until now they have only made decisions through consensus, not majority, but now they must decide: is it possible to make a decision about vaccinations that will please everyone? “Eureka Day was already timely when it made its local debut off-Broadway in 2019. It is even more so now.” (Time Out New York)
