The legendary Blind Boys of Alabama bring their transcendent harmonies and spiritual power to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stevie Wonder's iconic album “Songs in the Key of Life,” featuring classics like “Sir Duke,” “I Wish,” and more. This special presentation pairs many of Stevie Wonder’s classic songs with beloved selections from the Blind Boys’ own celebrated repertoire, blending gospel, soul, and Americana in a joyful performance that honors both musical legacies. With over 75 years of lifting spirits and moving souls, the Blind Boys continue their mission of spreading light and love through the universal language of music. In 2003, the Blind Boys earned a Grammy Award for an album that included their acclaimed cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground,” a version later featured in film and television, including FX’s Fargo. In 2007, Stevie Wonder presented Blind Boys singer Jimmy Carter with a Vision Award for Lifetime Achievement, underscoring their enduring impact on music and culture.

THE MAGIC OF MONTEVERDI William Christie and Paul Agnew, directors Ensemble of 13 musicians Ana Viera Leite, Soprano Rebecca Leggett, Mezzo soprano Melodie Ruvio, Alto Paul Agnew, Tenor Bastien Rimondi, Tenor Edward Grint, Bass-baritone Plus 7 instrumentalists (including William Christie) An unparalleled insight into the transformative power of Monteverdi's music A brilliant musician born in 1567, the young Monteverdi published his first collections of sacred music and madrigals in Cremona. His talents as a singer and violist allowed him to enter the service of the Gonzaga court in Mantua, where he remained for more than twenty years. With this fertile environment and multiple influences, both musical and literary, Monteverdi innovated masterfully, producing modern music that made him one of the most renowned composers of his time. This program, devoted to madrigals for mixed voices, offers a selection of Monteverdi’s finest works. It explores the madrigal in a variety of styles, from the purest polyphonic style to pieces rich in dissonances, through more elaborate works of a dancing nature. The program culminates in a performance of the famous Il Combattimento (The Combat of Tancred and Clorinda). This iconic work reveals all of Monteverdi’s dramatic genius, whose musical language evokes multiple and contradictory feelings, a recurring characteristic in all the works in this program. For the first time since the 40th anniversary of Les Arts Florissants in 2019, William Christie and Paul Agnew are reuniting for a joint direction. Experience Johannes Brahms’ magnum opus with Music Director Matthias Pintscher and the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. The great German composer was deeply moved by the death of his mother and composed what he almost called “A Human Requiem.” Taking German texts from the Luther Bible instead of the Latin text of the Requiem Mass, he created a humanist work focused not on the soul of the departed but on the living. The program also includes Arnold Schoenberg’s A Survivor from Warsaw, a memorial to victims of the Holocaust that defies evil with a powerful expression of faith.
