In this chamber opera for two singers and string quartet, a mezzo-soprano and a baritone depict the experiences of the sole transgender protagonist, Hannah, as she endeavors to resolve the discord between herself and the outside world. Composer Laura Kaminsky teamed up with librettist Mark Campbell (Silent Night, The Shining) and filmmaker Kimberly Reed to create this haunting, yet uplifting one-act opera, partially based on Reed’s own experience

As One premiered in September of 2014 with American Opera Projects, in association with The Brooklyn Academy of Music at the BAM Fisher Center in New York.
