Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I to delight Kansas City audiences this June

Whistle a Happy Tune! The breathtaking Lincoln Center Theater production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I makes its Kansas City premiere June 12-17 at Starlight Theatre. Boasting a score with beloved classics like “Getting to Know You,” “Shall We Dance” and many more, The King and I is one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s finest works and is sure to delight Kansas City audiences under the stars.

Set in 1860s’ Bangkok, The King and I tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. With universal themes of forbidden love, tolerance and identity, The King and I continues to resonate with modern audiences in this brand-new production.

Directed by Tony Award® winner Bartlett Sher, The King and I won four 2015 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. Hailed as “first-rate, sumptuous” (The New York Times) and “too beautiful to miss” (New York Magazine), The King and I played 538 performances on Broadway before setting out on a national tour.
