The Harriman-Jewell Series started our 57th season with an exciting lineup that included violinist Joshua Bell, the legendary opera diva Renée Fleming, and more recently, the endearing a cappella group loved world-wide, the King’s Singers. We are diving right into our second half of the season with an exciting lineup of artists that will bring something for everyone!
Brandon Goldberg Trio – on Saturday, March 12, we’ll welcome the Brandon Goldberg Trio. This 15-year-old jazz pianist and composer has been playing since the age of 3. He’s already released his second album, ‘In Good Time,’ a follow-up to his critically acclaimed ‘LET’S PLAY!’ His powerhouse trio includes Ben Wolfe on bass and Donald Edwards on drums.
Scottish Ensemble with Edgar Meyer – on Sunday, April 3, we’ll present this collaboration that will include the six time GRAMMY Award-winner and American star bassist paired with the string ensemble that The Observer U.K. calls “a scintillation of ace soloists who combine bracing energy, flexibility and precision, breathing and moving as one.”
Nashville Ballet’s Lucy Negro Redux with folk music icon Rhiannon Giddens and poet Caroline Randall Williams – this much awaited tour will start in Nashville and make its way to Kansas City on Friday, April 8. After selling out during its first run in 2019, we’re excited to bring this original ballet to Kansas City. Based on the book of poetry by Williams, it spins the tale of the imagined relationships from Shakespeare’s sonnets that feature the “Dark Lady” and the “Fair Youth.”

Joyce DiDonato’s EDEN – currently #1 on the Classical Album charts (as of this week after its release!) we’re excited to co-commission this new and important project with Joyce DiDonato. She has focused much of the last several years creating projects that challenge the public to think about prison reform, the plight of refuges and music education for all. This latest initiative unites music, drama and education to confront questions about our individual connection to nature. Her much-anticipated program is Tuesday, April 12.

Daniil Trifonov – after his original performance in 2020 was literally canceled hours before he was set to take the stage due to the city’s lockdown during COVID, we are thankful to bring back Trifonov back in this current season. A pianist and composer, he’s been described as “arguably today’s leading classical virtuoso” and “without question the most astounding pianist of our age.” His performance will be Sunday, April 24.
Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason – the brother-sister duo on cello and piano are performing in two events with the Series. A performance on Friday, April 29th will feature an entirely different program, showcasing their immense combined skill and connection with the music they play. A second performance the day after will be a free community Discovery Concert, offering another program to inspire others, especially young people, to the joy of music. These highly anticipated concerts will bring these two classically trained and highly accomplished musicians to Kansas City for other additional educational events that are in the works!

Samantha Ege – since 2004, the Series has presented free Discovery Concerts to the community. These young, emerging artists are on their way to breaking into the professional world of classical music and these concerts are an amazing opportunity to see them for free! Dr. Samantha Ege, a leading scholar in the study of Black women composers, will present her recital on Sunday, May 15. She is a leading interpreter and scholar of 20th-century composer Florence B. Price, the first African-American woman to have a symphony played by a major American orchestra. Her recital will include two US premieres of Price’s works! Many collaborations are being planned for her time with the Series, including immersive lectures, education events, and performing opportunities with select Kansas City arts groups.
Dorrance Dance – we’ll finish our 57th Season with an innovative ensemble of tap dancers named for its founder, Michelle Dorrance, a 2015 MacArthur Fellow and person the New York Times called “one of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today!” A typical performance by Dorrance Dance is backed by a live band and blows open everything you ever thought about tap to evoke an endless set of moods. Their tap-smashing performance is scheduled for May 27.
After canceling 22 performances in Season 56, the Series is excited to be back to doing what we do best…bringing the best of live, performing arts to our Kansas City audiences. We’ll soon be announcing our next season, and with great anticipation, we’re bringing more artists from around the world who’ll make their debut in Kansas City with us. It’s going to be an exciting spring for the Series!
