Kansas City Actors Theatre returns to the weird and wonderful world of Agatha Christie for the third time following sold-out productions of And Then There Were None and The Mousetrap

“Suspense, anyone? The old fashioned kind? Who’s for good, clean fun?” (The New York Times) SPIDER’S WEB is a classic ‘whodunnit’ story that is sure to thrill audiences of all ages. Clarissa, the wife of a diplomat, is known for her drama-filled stories. When a murder takes place in her drawing room, she finds real drama much harder to deal with than her stories. SPIDER’S WEB runs for TWO WEEKS ONLY from July 22nd to July 31st at the Goppert Theatre at Avila University.
Hillary Clemens stars as Clarissa Hailsham-Brown, after last being seen on KCAT’s stage in the award winning production of A Doll’s House. Clarissa is the second-wife of diplomat Henry who make their home at Copplestone Court among the butler, the gardener, and the local guests of the house. Returning to the KCAT stage, Phil Fiorini plays Sir Roland Delahaye, one of the guests of the manor, a local justice of the peace, and friend and guardian to Clarissa. Phil has been seen on KCAT’s stage in The Realistic Joneses and Inspecting Carol. Making her KCAT stage debut is Teisha M. Bankston as Miss Birch, an irascible guest of Copplestone Court. Teisha is a KCAT board member, and can be heard in many episodes of Kansas City Actors Radio Theatre. Patrick Beasley plays Jeremy Warrender, the young and charming third and final guest of the house. This is also Patrick’s KCAT debut, but he can be heard on Kansas City Actors Radio Theatre.
Criston Starks, last heard of Kansas City Actors Radio Theatre’s production of Ca$h 4 Carnage, plays Pippa Hailsham-Brown, Clarissa’s pre-teen step-daughter. The not-all-there gardener Mildred Peake is played by Ashlee LaPine, returning to KCAT’s stage for the first time since 2008’s Desdemona, a play about a handkerchief. Trevor A. French plays Elgin, the ever-watchful butler. You may have seen Trevor in KCAT’s staged reading of The Bad Seed or the virtual staged reading of The Pests. Eric Palmquist plays the Oliver Costello the shady character who shows up at Copplestone Court unannounced. Eric is making is KCAT stage debut.
Logan Black returns to KCAT’s stage after appearing in The Pests and King Lear, as Henry Hailsham-Brown. Henry is husband to Clarissa and a diplomat nervous about a big meeting. Last, but certainly not least, John Rensenhouse stars as Inspector Lord, the sharp-witted inspector on the case. John is KCAT’s Artistic Committe Chair and has appeared on stage, and in the director’s chair many times with KCAT.
SPIDER’S WEB is directed by Darren Sextro, who most recently directed (and adapted) A Doll’s House, as well as, Skylight, My Old Lady, and Crimes of the Heart for KCAT as well as more than 40 productions regionally.
