On March 6, 2026, Kansas City Ballet Artistic Director Devon Carney announced the company’s 2026-2027 season, which opens with a trip down the Yellow Brick Road in Septime Webre’s The Wizard of Oz, continues with Devon Carney’s masterpiece of love, tragedy, and dance, Romeo & Juliet, and concludes with the bold mixed-repertory triple bill, PULSE. Additionally, the season will feature the return of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, opening Thanksgiving weekend thru Dec. 24, 2026, and the latest installment in the creative and wildly popular New Moves series, showcasing new works in contemporary ballet, running Jan. 28-31, 2027. The season is rounded out with the continuation of the Family Series, presenting Pinocchio, Feb. 19-21, 2027.
Carney stated, “I’m thrilled to present an extraordinary season that brings world-renowned masterpieces and exciting new works to our Kansas City audience. From Septime Webre’s The Wizard of Oz and our beloved holiday tradition The Nutcracker to the return of Kansas City Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet, this season is a true celebration of dance and storytelling. PULSE will trace ballet’s past, present, and future through a bold three-part program featuring Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments, Jerome Robbins’ Glass Pieces, and a world premiere by acclaimed choreographer Melissa Hough. New Moves returns with dynamic works by rising choreographers, and our family-friendly series continues with Pinocchio. It’s a jam-packed, highly dynamic season filled with unforgettable dance experiences—you won’t want to miss a single performance.”
