Celebrate The Future of jazz in KC!
Friday, February 24, 8 p.m. | Helzberg Hall, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
Jazz is a conversation best shared warmly: from those who have spent a lifetime working and developing their craft shared with those who hunger for the knowledge to take the music forward. Since Mary Lou Williams sat down at the piano with a young Dizzy Gillespie, jazz education has endured and matured to one of the most enriching opportunities for young people, whether they play or just want to listen. The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra embraces the future of the music through performance and education, and this concert is wholly built upon that tenet as we fill the Kauffman Center with learners of all ages.
Alongside the illustrious vocals of Lee Langston and Eboni Fondren and a professional string orchestra, we welcome students from Kansas City Kansas Community College, Soundwave Academy, University of Kansas and Liberty North High School to participate in the dialogue, performing traditional standards from the Count Basie catalogue, all the way up to modern takes on beloved hits from Roberta Flack, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder and more!
TICKETS start at $33.50, and Student Rush tickets are available for $13.50. Order today!
Join us at 6:45 pm for pre-concert combo performances from Soundwave Academy and Kansas City Kansas Community College students.
