The Friends of Chamber Music announces its 2023-2024 season, the first under the artistic leadership of Dmitri Atapine and Hyeyeon Park. The 2023-2024 season, entitled “Brilliance,” includes Friend’s trademark blend of master pianists, early music, and world-class chamber music.
The Early Music Series returns with four concerts, including 2023 GRAMMY-nominees VOCES8; a debut by the “ravishing and exhilarating” European sensation Le Consort; another debut by the “irresistible” ensemble Quicksilver; and the return of Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.
The Master Pianist series features three performances with four artists beginning with the triumphant return to Kansas City of Sir András Schiff on November 14, 2023. Sir András Schiff will be performing at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and his program will be revealed that day. In December the Friends welcome the husband-and-wife duo Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung. The series concludes with Jeremy Denk performing the complete Bach Partitas for Keyboard just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 13th.
The International Chamber Music series will feature five performances, beginning with the 2022 Cleveland Quartet Award winners Aizuri Quartet on September 23, 2023. Quartetto di Cremona makes its Kansas City debut on October 28 and the Apollon Musagète Quartet makes its debut on February 2, 2024. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center returns to Kansas City with a touring program entitled “Extraordinary Imaginations” featuring music by Coleridge-Taylor, Bloch, and more. Dmitri Atapine will be performing with the Chamber Music Society, and he will be joined by Hyeyeon Park for the final concert of the year, “Spark of Genius.” “Spark of Genius” is a specially curated concert produced by Dmitri and Hyeyeon and will feature chamber musicians from around the country, including violinists Stella Chen and Sean Lee as well as violists Matthew Lipman and Milena Pájaro-van de Stadt in an evening culminating with music by Felix Mendelssohn.
